** Weekend Challenge **

Earn a star by completing the challenge below! Write your ideas in your agenda!

Poetry

In writing we have moved on to poetry! Students enjoyed this rhyming activity that allowed them to think outside the box!

Science Centre Outreach

Today we had a really special surprise waiting for us at school; Science Centre Outreach brought some reall cool experiments for us to try!

Synopsis: Who were Sir Isaac Newton and Rube Goldberg? And what do they have in common? Students work in groups to create their own mechanism to solve a simulated real life situation. Inquiry based learning occurs as students use a variety of materials to make simple machines and discover the properties of forces and motion.

Reading Strategy- Evaluation

All students have started an evaluation activity. Working in pairs, they have to evaluate a book based on likes and dislikes, author's craft and literary elements. Next week they will turn their ideas into a presentation for the class!

Decibels

Today grade 4 students learned that sound can be too loud, which results in damage to our ears! We looked at how vibrations can damage the hair cells inside the ear and that this damage is permanent! We linked sound to measurement/decibels and learned how to prevent damage from a sound over 120dB!

Andy Warhol

Grade 5 Arts Ed allows us to explor Pop Culture and Pop Art! This week we leaned about Andy Warhol and his contribution to the Pop Art movement!

Vibrations and Pitch

Today the grade 4 class experimented with vibrations and its relation to pitch. We learned that a slower vibration creates a lower sound and a faster vibration creates a higher sound!

Simple Machines

Today grade 5 students got to build the 5 simple machines (lever, pulley, wheel and axle, incline plane and wedge)! We will spend our next couple of science classes learning about each one in more detail!
