** Weekend Challenge **

Complete this weekend challenge to earn a star!

Friction

So far students have learned about magnetic force (non-contact)! Today they learned about friction (contact) and tested the force needed to move an object when friction is acting on that object. They realized that if a surface is bumpy or rough, there is more friction present! We also learned about the unit used to measure friction, newtons!

Sound is VIBRATION!

Grade 4 students got to extend their knowledge of sound waves and vibration by making a kazoo today!

Inquiry Learning

Grade 5 students had a challenge to make a car move without touching it! They were given no instruction, just a question to solve! After some experimenting, and changing variables, they realized that using magnets and magnetic force can move their car!

Telling Time

Grade 4 students have been learning/reviewing the concept of time! So many of the students already had background knowledge about this concept and it has made this unit fly by! After they were done their work this week, they got to play a math game using elapsed time ideas!

** Weekend Challenge **

Earn two stars by completing the following weekend challenge! Put your answer on a scrap piece of paper or write it in your agenda for Monday!

The Science of Sound

Grade 4 students completed an experiment today to learn the science behind how sound works. By using tuning forks and salt, kids learned that sound starts from a vibration!

Drama

Kids had a blast today acting out scenarios that they encounter in their every day lives. Students were expected to take on the role of Hairdresser, Doctor, Optometrist, and Dentist. They had to carry on a conversation with their client and provide pretend help!

Contact and Non-Contact Forces

Today grade 5 students did a basketball activity that showcased contact and non-contact forces. They discovered that air was also an invisible contact force present, while gravity was the non-contact force!

3D Shapes

To continue our geometry unit in Art, students built 3D shapes using marshmallows and toothpicks! Before we can create artwork that includes 3-dimension and shading, students need to have an understanding of what these shapes are and how to describe them!

Forces

Grade 5 students have started their 3rd Science unit- Forces!

With Ms. Harbortle, and again today as review, students learned about how a force is a push or a pull that acts on an object. They also discussed how forces can be balanced or unbalanced.

Of course, the Science textbook is always giving us fun activities to pair with our learning! This time it was a good old fashioned tug of war! Students started off with an unbalanced force and worked to create balance.

Seeds

This week, grade 4 students learned about the different types of farms that can be found in Saskatchewan. They then took an in depth look at different types of seeds/crops that can grow in Saskatchewan! Thanks to Agriculture in the Classroom, students had seed samples to classify based on their attributes!
