Matter

Grade 5's have started their second science unit on Properties and Changes of Matter. Today we learned that matter is anything that has mass and takes up space. We experimented how to calculate this by measuring in grams and finding volume ( length x width x height ).

RAZ Kids

Another great weekend activity to do with your child is to access RAZ Kids! It is an online guided reading program that allows students to practice at their own reading level!

The teacher login is 'schaeffer45' and students have their own ID and password! Happy reading!

Report Cards

Please be aware of the interview time that was sent in the report card folder. Students are more than welcome to join our interview and I look forward to seeing you there! Also, make sure to bring the folder with you, or return it with your child to school!

Reading

When students get a chance to read independently they are consumed by a good book! This makes a teacher's heart melt; students are so engaged in reading.

Shape- Tangrams

Today we moved onto our third element of art: shape! We talked about triangles and quadrilaterals and how these shapes are used in Tangram art! Students were then challenged to build items with their shapes!

Mathletics

Teachers at Indian Head Elementary School are working together to implement Mathletics more into their every day math class.

Mathletics includes over 1200 individualized, adapted practice activities and eBooks to help students achieve math success. Because of this, Mathletics should not be looked at as a 'math game' website but more as a 'math textbook' supplement. This website can be a very important tool to improve your child's math skills and empower them to be engaged math students!

If you would like to work more with your child at home, please log into their Mathletics account with them and give it a try! Their login information has been glued into the front of their agenda. I have only unlocked strands that we have worked on thus far, or are working on currently.

Camouflage

Today in Science the grade 4 students did an experiment to showcase how effective camouflage is. Students had to pick up as many circles as they could in 15 seconds. Some circles were yellow but others were blue and camouflaged into the background! We definitely had challenging ourselves!

Popping With Lines

We have been using our knowledge of 'line' to create many different art displays. Last art class we linked straight and curved lines to achieve a 'popping' hand.
